About

Naturalistic Photographic Art Prints

Basjoo Art Prints, is owned and run by Graphic Designer/Photographer Nickola Beck from her studio in Nottingham UK. Nickola completed her B.A(Hons) at Derby University in 1994 and worked as freelance graphic designer around the East Midlands, she then went on to establish her own business designing wedding stationery but now focus's purely on photography and design.

Nickola has been developing her skills as a botanical and naturalistic photographer. Her work is inspired by her passion of tropical plant gardening and graphic design. Basjoo Art Prints is named after a Japanese Banana 'Musa Basjoo,' (pronounced 'bazshoe') which grow amongst many other interesting monsters in her tropical garden!

"I am completely fascinated and LOVE the unusual abstracts of light and colour that are created when enlarging botanical
and natural images. Its just my camera and I, looking for very natural beautiful imagery, often found in the most unusual and unsuspecting places!

Being a graphic designer I am very influenced by packaging design, illustration and particularly typography. I think this flows through into my photographic work which tends to have a strong graphical quality.

Its simple.....this is the way I see the world."

Nickola uses very little post production in her Art Prints, preferring to keep the image as natural and faithful to the original as possible or using photographic techniques. Nature does it all!
